Hundreds of golfers teed it up during the 30th Annual Central Pacific Bank Charity Golf Tournament and helped raise more than $50,000 for Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu.
The event was held earlier this month at Pearl Country Club.
Proceeds will help Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu reach its $14 million capital campaign fundraising goal in Hawaii for its new hospital scheduled to open in 2010.
"These generous donations will enable Shriners to enhance its service to children in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Basin with free orthopedic care," said Clint Arnoldus, President and CEO of Central Pacific Bank, and Shriners Hospitals for Children Honolulu, Campaign Steering Committee Member.
Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu has been in continuous operation for the past 84 years. Since 1923, Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu has provided orthopedic care at no cost to more than 25,000 children in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Basin.
The mission of Shriners Hospitals is to provide care at no cost to all children up to 18 years old who have treatable orthopedic conditions, regardless of their economic status, race, creed, or gender. Shriners Hospital accepts patients regardless of whether they have healthcare insurance. Capital expenditures and operating costs for the Honolulu hospital and the 21 other Shriners Hospitals throughout the United States and Mexico have been supported by the generosity of donors and Shriners, a fraternal charitable organization established in 1872.
Annual operating costs for the Honolulu Hospital alone total $18 million. For the first time in its history, Shriners Hospital has launched a capital campaign to help finance the construction of a new hospital in Honolulu to replace an aging facility at its present site on Punahou Street.
Groundbreaking occurred in August, and the new hospital is targeted for completion in 2010.
The total cost for the new hospital is projected to be $73 million. The Shriners will invest $59 million; the capital campaign, "Every Step is a Victory," will raise the remaining $14 million in Hawaii and hope to raise more throughout the Pacific Rim.
All funds raised in Hawaii will remain in the Islands and are earmarked for the capital campaign.
The vision for Shriners Hospitals in Honolulu is to be the preeminent center to treat pediatric orthopedic conditions in the Pacific Basin and to provide hope for more families in Hawaii statewide and throughout the Pacific.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one-of-a-kind international system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs.
Central Pacific Bank is a Member FDIC.
