People like Larry Johnson never cease to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the Hawaiian economy.
According to Johnson, during its induction as a state in 1959, Hawaii has made constant growth up until the 90s when a number of problems started to affect the local economy.
"The economy here in Hawaii was really flat and economies on the mainland were doing pretty well," Johnson said.
But since the turn of the century, things are going much better for the state.
"I think that there is tremendous opportunities not only today but I think there will be a number of good opportunities going forward," he said. "I'm so bullish on the future of the state of Hawaii, and I always have been." Johnson added that Hawaii was strategically placed surrounded by 2/3 of the world's population making it an ideal investment location.
"Particularly for the Asian countries, they look upon Hawaii as being a state of the United States but it's different because they understand us," he said. "We have the ethnic mix. With China, Japan, the Philippines, now even India is starting to do extremely well, I think the future of Hawaii is outstanding."
Although Larry Johnson has conceded to the brain drain phenomenon-of Hawaiians going to the mainland-he said it was time to go back. is time for them to return.
"Now with the economy being as strong as it is, if anybody is listening up there on the mainland and is looking to come back, I'd give it a go right now," he said adding, "There are so many opportunities out there for young people here in the state of Hawaii. You just have to go out and take advantage of them."
