"Hands on experience is a huge opportunity to learn by doing."

This is how president of Hawaii Pacific University SIFE, Luke Tucker, defines what it is to be a member of one of the largest university organizations in the United States.

SIFE or Students In Free Enterprise enables students to engage in community enrichment programs with the premise of business development and, as president of California State University SIFE, Eric Horman puts it, the positive practice of the "entrepreneurial spirit".

According to its website, SIFE is a global, non-profit organization which offers students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.

This process improves the standard of living for millions around the world.
With presence within 1600 universities in 40 countries across six continents, the organization surely had gone a long way from its modest Texan beginnings in 1975.  Its global permeation started 1995 in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and since then has been continually expanding throughout the globe.

Founded by Robert T. "Sonny" Davis, SIFE was initially funded by Southwestern Life Insurance and its chairman, the late William Seay.

The SIFE team at Hawaii Pacific University was named regional champion at the SIFE Regional Competition held April 18, 2005 at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Hotel, according to the university website.
