Retired US Pacific commander Admiral Fargo advises Hawaii military personnel to be actively involved outside base perimeters despite their busy and erratic schedules.
According to Admiral Fargo, Hawaii's hospitality to military personnel deserves a return of favor. He said the State is an easy place for military families to move in and feel that they are part of the community.
"Hawaii is very welcoming to our military families," Admiral Fargo said. "That was the first indication to me that when I got the opportunity I ought to provide my time and effort to give something back to the community."
To return the care that the Hawaiian community has given him, Admiral Thomas Fargo decided to stay in the State after his retirement as commander of the US Pacific command.
Besides becoming CEO of Trex Enterprises, Admiral Fargo elected to be involved in a number of community activities.
"One I was to help with the Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund. Its purpose is to raise 34 million dollars to rebuild the Arizona Memorial Museum and Visitor Center," he said. "It hosts 1.6 million visitors every year, it's tremendously important not only to Hawaii but to the history of our nation."
He also serves on the Boards of Directors for Hawaiian Electric Industries, Hawaiian Airlines, the Japan-America Society, and the Iolani School Board of Governors. In January 2006, he was appointed to the Hawaii Pacific University Board of Trustees.
