Integrating a foundation in their corporate structure may have done Prudential Locations LLC a good deal. Not only do they get to engage in community giving, their sense of involvement also builds camaraderie within the team and boosts the morale of every member.
According to Bill Chee, president and CEO of the real estate brokerage firm, every year company agents do their rounds collecting funds for homeless shelters and street children. Last year, their foundation collected more than $120,000.
Chee said that focusing on the homeless was an apparent contradiction to the nature of their business, which is why the company's employees enjoy what they do. "We are heavily in support of shelters for families that involve kids or child and family services," he said. "Things like that that are almost the opposite of our clients, who have money and who have homes."
Some of the agents even bring their children to their volunteer assignments, which according to Chee, develops excellent parenting skills.
Chee believes that having a double bottom-line structure creates a win-win situation for a company and its publics. He said that for every penny that they put in their community efforts, so much comes back in different forms. "It is just money but we have gained more out of it than just that."
Bill sits on the directorship of several organizations including RESCO, Inc., Hawaii Family Dental Service, and Institute for Human Services.
