Susan Page feels that it is her obligation to give back to the community having been born in a wonderful country blessed with an enduring democracy.  Susan's realizations came when she visited Soweto in South Africa, a province beleaguered by hunger, poverty, and disease.

As part of her philanthropic contribution, Susan encourages the public to help however they can to ease the burden of the most impoverished of peoples. She said that despite the gravity of the situation in the region, it was still worth the effort to help at least one child, and doing this could make all the difference in their lives.

"You bother because you might save one child, and it's worth it if you save one child or two children, or four, or five, and so, that's why you go," Susan said.  "There are many, many wonderful hopeful examples of children who have been saved and orphanages that have been built."

"There are children over there who are five and six years old who are in prison for stealing. So, we've got a lot of work to do," she added.

Besides her position as vise president for Heart for Africa, Susan has co-hosted the Kapiolani Children's Miracle Network telethon and specials for 22 years and currently serves as a director on the boards of the Kapiolani Health Foundation, and Women In Need.
