Growing up in destitution never posed as a hindrance to Darrick Branch's search for success in life, thanks to the hardwork and dedication that his mother wielded to lift them out of poverty.
According to Darrick, co-founder of Hawaii Team Sports, it was fear and respect of his mother that got him out of trouble during his childhood - and ultimately, this helped him reach for his dream of becoming an NFL star.
"My mom made it happen for me and my sisters and I'm proud to say that we are instilled with the right kind of things by the most important person in our lives," he said.
Darrick played for the University of Hawaii in college and subsequently was drafted in to the NFL where he has joined various teams such as the Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills, 49ers, and the Broncos through the course of his professional career.
Retiring from the NFL, Darrick went back to Hawaii where he established himself as an entrepreneur - with a social undertone. His sports marketing and events company aims to promote a healthy youth culture to keep them away from trouble, drugs and alcohol. The company partners with individuals or organizations who want to help the youth through sports, according to Darrick
Exemplifying his athleticism, Darrick played basketball, football and track during his high school years. In 1989, he received a full athletic scholarship from the UH, eventually becoming a co-captain to bring the university's first ever WAC championship in 1992.
