The production of the hit TV show "Lost" not only advances tourism in the already idyllic islands, it also projects more than $70 million in to the local economy annually-thanks to Jean Higgins, film and TV producer, who increased from 75 to 90 per cent the show's investment put into Hawaiian businesses under Act 221.

Besides this, Jean is also able to participate in community giving through auctions conducted by the studio.  She said that despite the lack of direct involvement, the cast and crew are still able to engage in charitable giving through the goodwill of the studio.

"It makes it really hard to be actively involved and find the time to go to the meetings," she said. "What we find is it's much easier just time wise for us but it's also more meaningful really for the organizations, to funnel it through the studio."

Jean said that they have done a number of auction through set visits to Lost and have donated pieces of wardrobe, and items of clothing and props to the public.

"They fetch far more than their market value by virtue of what they are, and it's a great way to help raise money for charity," Jean said.

Jean Higgins started his film and TV career as a theater actress shifting from oceanographic engineering as a college student.  She eventually made her way into production and has since become responsible for more than $500 million in film and TV productions.
