The Pete Carpenter Fellowship truly has a name to live up to.  Founded in 1989, the fellowship gives aspiring film and TV composers the opportunity to develop their talents in music writing.  So far, eight of its beneficiaries have made it successfully composing themes for the screen.

Every year, the fellowship receives between 300 and 600 applications where at least one is chosen to work with eminent TV composer Mike Post, owner of Mike Post Productions.  The program runs for at least four weeks.  The winners also get a chance to meet other distinguished theatrical, film and television composers and leaders in the entertainment industry.

Mike, through BMI Foundation, instituted the fellowship in honor of his partner, colleague and friend.  Since its inception, he has been sharing his time and expertise generously to the cause.  However, despite being virtually a mentor Mike does not consider himself as a teacher.

"I guess you could call that a form of teaching although I don't at all try and pass myself off as any sort of teacher or sensei to anybody but I can tell you how I do my thing and I can give you some advice on how I have been able to pull it off," he said.  "And I do that quite a bit, I do that a tremendous amount."

Having music as his passion, Mike Post wholeheartedly supports music-oriented programs, offering financial aid or donating instruments to disadvantaged communities.

At 24, he was the youngest musician ever to be appointed as musical director for a television program, the Andy McWilliams show.
